new clone basement series (lucky number 013!) with the long awaited return of a made up sound (aka 2562), following up on his archive ep/cbs02. written as a counterbalance to the more experimental releases on his own amus label series, archive ii finally unleashes whats possibly his most banging, straight-forward club material to date, while retaining the trademark a made up sound funk and swing.hang-up is all about the irresistible herbie-injected groove, cut-up and layered to great effect, whereas things get darker and bass-heavier with technotrack sweetback on the flip. keeping the tension high till a drop towards the end, seven minutes never seemed so short. a great first number 013 release and we cant wait to hear some of our favourite djs play the tracks out loud. another proper banger on the clone basement series!

eric erickssons not exactly the most prolific producer in the world but what he lacks in releases he certainly makes up for in quality. in 1997 eric signed his debut ep to derrick mays fragile records, established his own kass recordings in 2004 and then last year put out his killer someone is watching ep on carl craigs planet e. >love cannot< remixer mr beatnick has been in popular demand since his slow jack remix of hints >one woman army< on tru thoughts profoundly pushed his production skills into the limelight, quickly backed by the 2011 track >synthetes< on semteks >dont be afraid< label, which featured on many tracks of 2011 lists. his follow up ep, sun goddess, has already gained critical acclaim and support from the likes of gilles peterson on radio 1.

finnish dj crew rollomatik break out on the boogie boutique imprint with a two track release that aims to represent the arctic circle fully in the nu funk/breakbeat scene. formed of hesh & eaves, rollomatik aim to rock the party and that much is evident on this cheeky 12 inch with >we love to party< deftly blending will smith with chic amidst a melange of other recognisable samples. a similar approach runs through flipside jam >the greatest< as rollomatik lay down the vocal from an oft used q-tip solo joint over a heavily filtered take on sister sledges most ubiquitous track.

welcome reisssue for monster soul-funk lp >disconnection<, one of the most obscure and sought-after releases from top 70s disco label, prelude. ridiculously expensive and hard-to-find in the original, this album is stuffed full with killer tracks spanning warm, soulful disco, high-stepping groove and boogie-heavy funk all written and produced by robert holmes. standouts include the jazzy free-style >dead on the case<, later reworked for the mysterious french skyline project, cool jazz-funk groover >bay city<, recently edited by none other than balearic maestro lexx, and the floor-friendly chunky funk workout >cash money<. however no track is a filler on this superb album which fully deserves its holy grail status with collectors. essential!
